Day 14 – The Unthinkable

Abandoning ChildChildren are one third of our population and all of our future. ~Select Panel for the Promotion of Child Health, 1981.

Imagine a family in a village struck by drought and food shortage.  The scarcity of necessary resources compels the father to take his wife and 4 children, with their belongings to travel to a place where they will have the remote chance of survival or atleast be fed a meal with clean drinking water.

They take an ardious and gruelling journey in the cover of darkness to avoid the scorching sun during the day, resting in shade where possible but often having to bear the heat and keep moving.

One of the four children falls ill on the journey, dehydration and fever grips the child.  The father looks at the little water they have remaining.  The rest of the children are on the brinking point of dying from hunger pangs leaving the father to do the unthinkable.  As tears flow from his eyes he takes his children and wife away from the suffering child and begins to carry on moving, leaving the child behind.

Now consider that  this story  is not fictional but one that is happening and repeating every day in East Africa.  I couldn’t even begin to imagine myself in this mans shoes and the mere thought passing through my head troubles me deeply.

Don't ignore them - Be a life saverThere are some who argue that suffering in the world is proof that there is no God, but then do they not consider that the suffering people say this is proof that there is no humanity left in people and that God is asking us where we are at this time of need of our fellow human beings?

Ramadan is a time when we should answer the call of the distressed and use our resources to help those in need.  Where every bit of monetary help translates into saving lives and preventing this story from repeating over and over, we should act now.

Be a life saver and donate now.

Still don’t believe it is happening? Watch the video below.

Be a life saver and donate now.
